EGL and Rational Business Developer
Presenter: Claus Weiss, IBM
12:00pm - 1:30pm CT
Tuesdays – November 25 and December 2, 9, 16, 2008

Enterprise Generation Language (EGL) is an easy to learn programming language that provides optimal integration with existing IBM i applications. EGL also provides full integration with many new technologies that are standard in today’s IT infrastructure.
EGL can be used to extend the capabilities of existing RPG programs or to write complete new business applications.

This webinar will introduce the Rational Business Developer (RBD) product and Enterprise Generation Language (EGL).

Registration includes access to the four webcasts listed below, handouts for each webcast, and access to a collaborative website on iSociety for discussion and offline support.

Session 1: Intro to Rational Business Developer (RBD) and Enterprise Generation Language (EGL).
This session shows how IBM i developers can use Rational Developer for System i for SOA construction to easily create professional business Web applications. We show how Rational Business Developer (RBD) and Enterprise Generation Language (EGL) can be used to connect to an IBM i DB2 database. We will show the tools in RBD and how they integrate with EGL. RBD allows working with existing IBM i DB2 data definitions so the data definitions can be easily re-used when creating Web applications. We will demo how to create a simple application with a Web user interface that accesses data on IBM i.
November 25 - 12:00 - 1:30pm, Central Time

Session 2: Enterprise Generation Language (EGL) for RPG developers.
Enterprise Generation Language (a part of Rational Business Developer) is IBM Rational's newest business language. It allows easy construction of business applications that run on multiple platforms. This high-level programming language enables RPG developers who have little or no experience with Java, Web technologies or Service Oriented Architecture to create enterprise-class applications and services quickly and easily. In this session we'll teach you the basic features of EGL and how they compare to the RPG language features.
December 2 - 12:00 - 1:30pm, Central Time

Session 3: 5250. Creating consuming Web services with Enterprise Generation Language (EGL).
Enterprise Generation Language (EGL) has built in capabilities to support Web services. The language allows one to easily create a Web service. These Web services can be accessed by any other application. EGL also allows consuming existing Web services by simply pointing to a Web Service Definition Language File (WSDL). The Web service wizard will create an EGL interface from this definition. The EGL developer can then invoke the Web service like a function without having to worry about the middleware involved in a Web service invocation. We show you both EGL capabilities in this session.
December 9 - 12:00 - 1:30pm, Central Time

Session 4: Creating Rich Web User Interfaces for EGL applications
This session shows how you can easily create professional business Web applications that feature a great looking Rich User Interface. In this session learn about EGL and its capabilities to create Ajax based user interfaces. We will show how the RDi SOA tools and EGL allow creating good looking fast responding Web applications. We will also discuss how in the near future EGL will support true Web 2.0 user interfaces.
December 16 - 12:00 - 1:30pm, Central Time
