IBM Certification Exams

IBM will be offering two new certification exams by the end of the year. The plan is for more exams in the future. By the end of the year the IBM i developer and system administration exams will be available. During this time when many organizations are looking to replace retiring resource certification exams hold an important place and merit to those looking for resource. We can all agree finding experienced IBM i resource is not like it used to be. I do get frustrated when I hear an organization state, they cannot find someone to fill a position for a retiring resource. Like any other work discipline, you start looking for someone with all of the specific requirements and if a match isn’t found you the look for someone with the most important skills ad if a match isn’t found consider bringing in someone with some of the base skills and the desire and aptitude and teach them what is needed to fulfill the job requirements.  For those looking a certification can show and prove that you have a solid base for meeting the job requirements. As a part of the team that worked on the developer exam, I can state that the exam is geared to the modern IBM i developer. The role no longer includes RPG only but also many other modern technologies. The effort supported by IBM and led by Brandon Pederson and Alison Butterill will soon be offered. If you are serious about your career or looking to make a job move it is worthwhile to seek out information on the certifications.
