Service Enabling your System i Infrastructure
Speaker: Kou-Mei Lui, Claus Weiss & Alisa Morse, IBM • Marcus Dee, Looksoftware • Scott McBurney, Advanced BusinessLink • Naama Saar & Glenn Johnson, Magic Software

An archived version of sessions already completed is available free to all current members: go to www.common.org/memonly/webcasts/archive.html

Over a decade ago, TCP/IP and Ethernet unified the way hardware systems could be networked together.  The standards built around Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) are doing the same for software applications today and every major software vendor has been supporting them.  The real benefit of SOA is derived when you can connect applications together more efficiently and be able to deploy them as business processes.  The good news is System i can function as both, acting as the endpoint in an SOA or the focal point.  This free COMMON Webinar will explore the use of these SOA standards by IBM, and IBM ISVs, to help you service-enable your existing RPG and COBOL applications today, and prepare for a more flexible infrastructure for the future.

The Incident Command System

The Incident Command System, or ICS, is a standardized incident management concept designed specifically to allow responders to adopt an integrated organizational structure equal to the complexity and demands of any single incident or multiple incidents without being hindered by jurisdictional boundaries. Although originally developed for use by government agencies, its highly adaptable structure has made it an excellent choice for business organizations to respond to emergencies as well.

If you are responsible for, or involved in, Business Continuity Plans or Disaster Recovery Plans you should consider the advantages of using the ICS to structure your company’s response to incidents. In a regional event, you should at least understand how the government organizations you will need to interface with are structured to help you. This presentation will give you an understanding of how both business and government benefit by using this system.
