AIX Webcast: AIX Business Resiliency and Disaster Recovery
Speaker: Ferenc Gyurcsan, Vision Solutions
Business resiliency has been on the minds of leaders of businesses from small to enterprise. Be it driven by regulatory compliance requirements, by an organization’s board, or at times by the need to deliver on more stringent service level agreements during planned and unplanned downtime in a globalized business environment, business resiliency and associated risk management strategies for mission-critical IBM AIX systems have become a mandate for IT departments in recent years. This evolving requirement led to the need for solutions beyond traditional tape-based backup and disaster recovery, for ones that can deliver measurable financial impact and value to the business. Join us for a webcast on business resiliency and disaster recovery best practices on the AIX platform. The presenter, Ferenc Gyurcsan, COMMON’s subject matter expert for AIX, will provide an overview of the business drivers and factors to be considered on the road of business resiliency, followed by a survey of high availability, disaster recovery and virtualization solutions currently available on the market for AIX, as they relate to business resiliency.
About the Speaker:
Ferenc Gyurcsan has over a decade of experience in the IT industry, with several High Availability, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity industry publications, as well as a versatile expertise in computer clustering solutions. He has been working for Vision Solutions and its predecessors in the HA/DR arena with a focus on IBM AIX and open systems solutions. His roles included lead software engineer for IBM’s HACMP product suite, as well as sustaining development manager for IBM’s PowerHA and for Vision’s open systems products, overseeing, among other accomplishments, the technical aspects of the acquisition of Vision’s EchoStream DR product. Mr. Gyurcsan serves as an AIX Subject Matter Expert for COMMON, the IBM Power Systems users’ group, where he is also a frequent speaker on topics of business resiliency and AIX. AIX Webcast: nmon and topas
Speaker: Nigel Griffiths, IBM
nmon has become popular with thousands of AIX systems administrators over the past 12 years. nmon provides for live performance monitoring, tuning, and records performance data in a single file, whose format can be used as the input in the automated Excel spreadsheet -- nmon Analyser -- and other web based graphing tools.
In this webcast we will cover nmon basics, new features, and discuss how nmon has changed from a personal project -- downloadable from the AIX Wiki -- to become part of AIX itself due to popular demand of AIX users.
About the Speaker:
Nigel Griffiths, System p & AIX Advanced Technical Support Europe, is the developer of the nmon tool. Nigel's real job has been involved with the testing and introduction of new System p technology for the past 5 years and skills development within IBM and with customers. He is a regular speaker at IBM conferences, and often found on writing for the AIX Wiki and answering questions on the AIX and Performance Tools Forumsthat can be found at http://www.ibm.com/systems/power/community/index.html.
