Lab Software LoadingLab sessions are held in tracks LA, LB, and LC. Each lab has a System i with a CD-ROM and 1/4" tape drive (tape format must be greater than QIC525) to install your software to the System i in the lab room. These labs include a special AV PC workstation attached to the system, as well as space to connect your laptop. (Please note this connection is ethernet, utilizing an RJ45 connection to an ethernet switch.) The PCs in each lab room will be loaded with:
Lab Software RequirementsIt is your responsibility to bring properly licensed software and be prepared to load and configure the software in such a way that it does not interfere with the software of other presenters scheduled in your room. (COMMON will provide volunteers to act as mediators to resolve installation conflict and supervise the distribution of the software from the "master" system to all of the student workstations within the lab.) Loading your SoftwareIf you are presenting a lab session, you will need to load, configure and test the software you have brought prior to 4:00pm on Sunday. (If not loaded by 4:00pm Sunday, you will be responsible for loading your software on each PC in the room, as the COMMON Technology Team will begin cloning the PCs at this time. In order to load your software to each PC, you will have to contact the COMMON Technology Team Coordinator to arrange a time during the week when no one else is using the lab room.) If you need software loaded on the PC that is not listed above, you should bring it with you to the conference and load it to the 'Master' PC during your scheduled load time and it will be copied to each lab PC on Sunday night. Please be sure that COMMON lab personnel know that you are adding software to the PC to insure that there are no conflicts with other presenters. During your load time, you will need to install and test one complete set-up on the master PC and the System i. You should assume the desktop will display the standard Windows XP Professional desktop along with any icons created via the installation of software by you or other speakers, and may need to be customized. You may add any DLLs or other changes that are supported by COMMON’s hardware, as long as the customization does not conflict with other speakers’ applications. If, after the lab, you would like to have your code deleted from the system, you may do so with the approval/supervision of a Technology Team member. COMMON is not responsible for the installation or deletion of your code If you have questions, contact Steve McKay |
