This
presentation
describes
VicRoads
experiences
utilizing
smart
clients
and
web
services
to
deliver
more
from
their
existing
IT
assets.
VicRoads
is
a
good
example
of
how
new
composite
solutions
can
be
delivered
that
leverage
existing
iSeries
and
zSeries
application
functionality.
By
creating
service
modules
that
access
their
existing
applications,
VicRoads
have
been
able
to
deliver
'new'
solutions
for
their
call
centre
that
reduced
average
call
duration
by
40%.
The
next
step
was
to
integrate
the
same
service
modules
with
Interactive
Voice
Response
(IVR)
to
extend
direct
access
to
consumers.
A
third
initiative
is
aimed
at
improving
trading
partner
collaboration.
The
same
web
services
created
from
iSeries
applications
have
been
reused
and
delivered
through
different
channels,
satisfying
requirements
for
new
and
enhanced
applications
without
having
to
develop
significant
new
functionality.

the
