Speaker(s):
Peter Helgren Value Added Software, Inc.

In this session we will identify SOA components for an SOA solution, identify Open Source tools for each of the components and build a simple SOA Employee/ Human Resources solution using these open source components. Some familiarity with SOA concepts is required.

SOA Server solutions will be built around Websphere Application Server - Community Edition. As part of WASCE we will use: ActiveMQ for message serving, Tomcat for application serving, Cloudscape for DB serving and Axis for web services.

SOA client applications will be built using:

RPGLE - A simple employee hiring program.
Freemarker servlet - A simple applicant entry program.
VB.Net - A simple employee benefits program
AJAX - A simple status monitoring application.

All of these application will focus on code reuse and web services to promote interoperability.

By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:
1. Identify the open source tools currently available.
2. Identify SOA components needed for a solution.
3. Create an SOA solution using Open Source Tools.
