There are two parts to this session. The first part is about System i5 hardware futures and the second is on recent IBM System i5 hardware announcements. Part one starts by reviewing planning statements which IBM has publically shared, but are perhaps not widely known to all. Then future
technology implications over the next 2-3 years to System i5 hardware product offerings are explored, Part two of the session reviews the System i5 hardware which was just
started shipping in February 2006. This session covers the hardware announcements in far more depth than the typical announcement overview session, but in less depth than a "how to install" class. Topics will include System i5 processors, models, editions, memory, I/ O controllers/ adapters, Smart IOAs and more. Insights are provided into not only what IBM announced but positions them as to when they are best selected.

By the end of this session, attendess will be able to:
1. Summarize future hardware planning statements IBM has made.
2. Summarize key System i5 hardware announcement.
