A significant cost for many applications is the ongoing servicing (reporting and isolation) of problems within the application. This session, which is intended for application programmers, covers tools that are available in i5/ OS to help reduce these costs. The tools include:

1. Sending of meaningful messages using Message Handling APIs.
2. Monitoring for error situations using the Monitoring APIs.
3. Gathering of error related data using the Problem Log APIs.
4. Gathering of performance data using Performance Explorer APIs.
5. Gathering of trace data using User Trace APIs.

Examples will be provided using many of these APIs form ILE RPG, ILE COBOL, ILE C, and ILE CL. Knowledge of one or more of these languages is assumed.
