OPEN LAB: Linux on System i

Linux on iSeries and eServer i5 provides a flexible/ vibrant platform for the implementation of cutting-edge infrastructure and e-business solutions including file serving, network infrastructure (DNS, DHCP, Firewall), database connectivity and web front ending existing DB2/ 400 data sources.  This lab provides the opportunity to become more familiar with general Linux features as well as configuration of the eServer i5 system for implementation of Linux-based solutions. 
 
Exercises that will be available include:
1.  Use of the Hardware Management Console (HMC) for definition of Logical Partitions for Linux.
2.  Use of Virtual Partition Manager (VPM) for definition and management of Linux environments
3.  System Administration
4.  Familiarization with Linux concepts (shell, file system, user commands)
5.  Exploring network concepts and solutions
6.  Kernel Building
7.  File Server exploration
