OPEN LAB: End-to-End Replication Recovery on a Shoestring

Speaker(s):
Larry Youngren
Dave Owen IBM Corporation

This is a work-at-your-own-pace open lab.

Here's your opportunity to try some hands-on lab exercises to demonstrate how to set up and execute both a disaster recovery as well as an end-to-end high availability kind of approach on a shoestring.

In this open lab, attendees will:
1. Configure a remote journal connection using a technique we call: Remote Journal made easy".
2. Simulate a site loss disaster and then walk through the steps to recover corresponding objects housing your critical data on a secondary machine.
3. Try out the new APIs which are intended to make recovery easier.
4. See an end-to-end periodic refresh solution at work which we're calling: "Disaster recovery on a shoestring".
5. Build a heartbeat monitor to keep an eye on the health of your remote journal connection.
6. Peek behind the scenes at some of the software which makes this all work.

Along the way, you'll try your hand at running a hotel and we'll have both a source side and target side machine for you to use. The exercises are fun, the experience is invigorating, and you just might learn a thing or two about disasters and how to recover along the way.
