Attendees can choose from a large variety of topics and sessions at the 2010 Fall Conference and Expo. We are planning for over educational sessions and pre-conference workshop in the three-day conference, allowing attendees to maximize their education while minimizing time out of the office. View the sessions in the Online Session Guide here.
The educational sessions will also include vendor-led sessions for the first time, presented by leading solution providers on their products. This gives attendees even more choices on how to maximize their time at the conference. They can choose to get more education on the products that they may already use, as well as learn about the newest technologies to help their organization.

Pre-Conference Workshops
There will be three pre-conference workshops available at the 2010 Fall Conference & Expo - two on IBM i topics and one on an AIX topic. Thye provide attendees an opportunity to add in-depth education to their conference experience. The workshops will take place on Sunday, October 3rd from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm before the start of the conference on Monday, October 4th. Below are the two IBM i workshops that will be available:
Systems Management Larry Bolhuis, Frankeni Technology Consulting
The IBM i systems administration workshop will cover many of the key topics that system administrators must understand to keep i5/OS running at peak efficiency. We will focus on maintenance items that are often ignored by administrators.
Learning Objectives:
After this session you will understand cleaning up disk, updates to the HMC, the FSP and i5/OS.
You will also understand some of the system values needed to control storage and finally how to help deal with spooled files on the system.
Workshop Syllabus/Agenda:
HMC what it is, what it does, and general care and feeding.
FSP updates, why, when, and how (two ways: with and without HMC).
PTFs for i5/OS, getting them, loading them, and knowing what you have! (including Fix Central overview).
VMI ‐ Tape and Optical. The care and feeding of image catalogs and how to clean a virtual tape drive.
Management central ‐ performance monitoring, PTF distribution, central site inventory.
Storage Management ‐ How much disk is enough (rhetorical question!). Figuring out what is using it with a focus on the IFS and improving its performance.
RCLSTG and when you might need one or how to avoid one.
Various System values.
Spool file maintenance including use of iASPs, Joblog Servers, and disconnected spool file functions.
