CHARITY 5K Run/Walk As part of the COMMON Cares initiative, COMMON has chosen to team up with the Florida Blood Centers to hold its second annual COMMON Charity 5K Run/Walk. The race will kick-off the 2010 Annual Meeting and Exposition, and will be held on Monday, May 3, 2010 beginning at 8:00AM. This run/walk is for everyone - whether you’re a seasoned runner, an early-riser, trying to get back into shape, or attending COMMON for the first time and just want to make new friends, consider taking part in this 5K charity race.
With the numerous sessions, Exposition activities, and networking events on the agenda, finding the time to exercise will be challenging. In addition to starting out the conference feeling energized, you will be supporting two wonderful charities. The race is open to all attending COMMON and to the Orlando community. The race will start and finish at the Hilton Orlando, the site of the 2010 Annual Meeting and Exposition.
Registration will begin at 7:00AM. After checking in, help yourself to the pre-race food, such as granola bars and bananas. The fee for participating in the 5K will be $35.00. Proceeds will be split between the COMMON Education Foundation (CEF) and Florida Blood Centers.

There will be a first aid table at the beginning of the race route on the Hilton Orlando property. There will also be COMMON Staff members/volunteers along the race to assist you in the event of a question or emergency. They will be easy to identify wearing their royal blue TLC (Tactical Liaisons to Course) vests.
Awards will be presented to the first, second and third place finishers. Upon completion of the race, you may once again re-hydrate on the snacks and beverages located on the tables near the finish line. Winners will be noted in the COMMON Conference Daily, as well as at the COMMON Education Foundation area located inside of the Hilton Orlando.
COMMON Cares Blood Drive
As part of its “COMMON Cares” initiative, COMMON has chosen to "give back" to the community where our annual meeting is held each year by holding a COMMON Cares Blood Drive. The second annual blood drive will take place during the COMMON 2010 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Orlando, Florida at the Hilton Orlando. COMMON has partnered with Florida’s Blood Centers to hold the blood drive for all COMMON attendees, exhibitors, volunteers and guests.
The COMMON Cares Blood Drive will take place on Monday, May 3rd and Tuesday, May 4th from 8:00AM – 2:00 PM (Room TBD). This blood drive is another initiative by COMMON to engage our COMMON community with the broader community and help make a difference within that community. The COMMON Cares Blood Drive is an initiative that will immediately affect the lives of the local community, and is an easy way to add some social service to your educational conference experience.

A Little Bit About Our Partner – Florida’s Blood Centers
From inception in 1942, shortly after the start of World War II, Florida’s Blood Centers was founded on the philosophy of people helping others. Since then, we have consistently provided the communities we serve with a safe and adequate supply of blood thanks to the generosity of our volunteer blood donors.
A founding member of the American Association of Blood Banks and the Florida Association of Blood Banks, FBC has been a pioneer and leader within the industry. It was one of the first blood centers in the country to implement mobile blood collection and advanced blood screening processes such as testing for West Nile Virus.
FBC has come a long way since its beginnings in a four-room facility in Orange General Hospital. The organization has grown into a sophisticated multi-county operation with a headquarters in Orlando, and dozens of branch locations and mobile units. Today, FBC is the sole supplier of blood and blood products to more than 70 hospitals and healthcare facilities in 21 counties throughout Florida – making it the largest independent blood center in Florida and the fourth-largest in the country.
