COMMON Cares - 5K Run/Walk and Blood Drive

COMMON Cares
COMMON Cares is COMMON's world and community outreach initiative as part of the Community and Networking area of COMMON.

CHARITY 5K Run/Walk
As part of the COMMON Cares initiative, COMMON has chosen to team up with the Reno/Sparks community to hold its first-ever COMMON Charity 5K Run/Walk. The race will kick-off the 2009 Annual Meeting and Exposition, and will be held on Sunday, April 26th beginning at 8:30AM. This run/walk is for everyone - whether you’re a seasoned runner, an early-riser, trying to get back into shape, or attending COMMON for the first time and just want to make new friends, consider taking part in this first-ever 5K charity race. Register online to participate here.

With the numerous sessions, Exposition activities, and networking events on the agenda, finding the time to exercise will be challenging. In addition to starting out the conference feeling energized, you will be supporting two wonderful charities. The race is open to all attending COMMON and to the Reno/Sparks community. The race will start and finish at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, the site of the Annual Meeting and Exposition.

Registration will begin at 7:00AM, and after checking in, you may help yourself to the pre-race food, such as granola bars and bananas, that will be provided. The fee for participating in the 5K will be $35.00, and proceeds will be split between the COMMON Education Foundation (CEF) and a local Reno charity (TBD).

REGISTRATION
If you are interested in registering for the first-ever COMMON 5K Run/Walk, please register online here or you can download the registration form here to register and sign the included waiver. (Please note that in order to participate in the race, the release form must signed). For additional information on volunteering or questions regarding the race, please contact Maria F. Madden, Conference and Expo Manager, at 312.279.0238 or maria_f_madden@common.org.

AID STATIONS
There will be a first aid table at the beginning of the race route on Grand Sierra Resort and Casino property, should you need anything. There will also be COMMON Staff members/volunteers along the race to assist you in the event of a question or emergency. They will be easy to identify wearing their royal blue TLC (Tactical Liaisons to Course) vests.

FINISH LINE
Awards will be presented to the first, second and third place finishers. Upon completion of the race, you may once again re-hydrate on the snacks and beverages located on the tables near the finish line. Winners will be noted in the COMMON Conference Daily, as well as at the COMMON Education Foundation area located inside of the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino.

Should you have additional questions please contact Maria F. Madden at 312.279.0238 or maria_f_madden@common.org.

COMMON Cares Blood Drive
As part of the COMMON Cares initiative, COMMON has chosen to "give-back" to the community where our annual meeting is held each year by holding a COMMON Cares Blood Drive. The inaugural blood drive will take place during the COMMON 2009 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Reno, Nevada at the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino. COMMON has partnered with United Blood Services to hold the blood drive for all COMMON attendees, exhibitors, volunteers and guests.

The COMMON Cares Blood Drive will take place on Wednesday, April 29 from 8:00am - 3:00pm in the Nevada Foyer, Arcade Level. This blood drive is another initiative by COMMON to engage our COMMON community with the broader community and help make a difference within that community. The COMMON Cares Blood Drive is an initiative that will immediately affect the lives of the local community, and is an easy way to add some social service to educational conference experience. Note: The Blood Drive originally scheduled for Sunday, April 26th has been cancelled by United Blood Services due to their internal resource constraints. We apologize for any inconvenience.
