Sendmail for Beginners

Speaker(s):
Stephen Ulmer University of Florida

This session begins with an overview of Internet mail, and outlines the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). It then presents a feature tour of the most common Mail Transport Agent (MTA) on the Internet: Sendmail.. The speaker will address the concepts necessary to design a Sendmail implementation for most environments, and to make informed choices about Sendmail deployments. These include the basics of generating configuration files, virtual domain hosting, queue management for high-volume servers, the access database, and mail filtering with Milter.
